D2.3 – LMS set-up and configuration
The SOHO Learning Management System is the digital home of the training programme. Built on Moodle and available at moodle.sohoproject.eu, it hosts the three SOHO modules, tracks learners’ progress and issues digital badges and micro-credentials.

Objectives
The task had four objectives: to integrate modern learning tools such as gamification, micro-credentials and digital badges; to customise the platform for smart sustainable tourism – smart transportation, sustainable accommodation and renewable energy; to make it accessible and easy to use for students, educators and industry professionals; and to keep it scalable and flexible for future curriculum updates and a growing number of users.
Why Moodle
Moodle was selected after a requirements analysis with the partners. It is open source and free to use, modify and distribute; it scales to multiple regions and user groups; it supports multimedia content, built-in badges and learning analytics; it offers multilingual support and a mobile app; it complies with open standards such as SCORM and xAPI; it has a very large global community and plugin ecosystem; it is GDPR-compliant; and, being sustainable in the long term, it can continue to serve the Knowledge & Competence Centers after the project ends.
Set-up and configuration
The work proceeded in six steps: requirements analysis (stakeholder surveys and focus groups; progress tracking, automated assessments and digital badges; multi-device compatibility); platform selection; configuration and customisation (course modules on smart sustainable tourism topics, roles for administrators, instructors and learners, micro-credential and achievement tracking); testing and quality assurance across browsers, devices and load; deployment on a secure server with training sessions, user manuals and video tutorials; and post-deployment monitoring and feedback.
Expected outcomes
Interactive learning experiences with automated progress tracking and digital credentials; streamlined delivery of the training modules developed in WP3; support for online and hybrid learning for remote learners; and a robust platform that remains usable beyond the project’s duration.
