Milan, 27 February 2024. The SOHO project – Smart, Optimized, High-quality and On-demand Tourism Innovative Education for Sustainable and Green Development – was officially launched at its kick-off transnational project meeting, hosted by the Department of Energy of Politecnico di Milano at the Bovisa Campus. Twenty-four representatives of the nine partner universities from Romania, France, Italy, Malaysia, Vietnam and Bangladesh took part, in person or online.

Day 1 – getting to know each other and setting the rules

The meeting was opened by Tudor Prisecaru, President of POLITEHNICA Bucharest, and Sonia Leva, Vice-Dean of the Department of Energy at POLIMI. After a consortium round table in which every partner presented its institution, expertise and contribution, Gabriel Dima (POLITEHNICA Bucharest) introduced the project objectives, the work-package structure, the expected outputs and the planned impact, and presented the calendar of transnational project meetings: the consortium meets in person every six months, with online operational meetings in between.

The afternoon was dedicated to WP2 – Deploying the Learning Management System and innovative curriculum design. Partners agreed a detailed to-do list: survey tools for the training needs analysis by mid-March 2024, data collection by mid-April, the final Training Needs Analysis report (D2.1) by 31 May 2024, the training curriculum (D2.2, led by Université Lumière Lyon 2) by 31 October 2024 and the final version of the LMS (D2.3) by 30 November 2024. The administrative session covered the lump-sum funding model, reporting obligations, the project unique identifier 101129336 and the confirmation that 70 % of the EU grant had been received and distributed. The day ended with a visit of the laboratories of the Department of Energy.

Day 2 – training materials, quality and next steps

On the second day POLIMI, ULL and POLITEHNICA Bucharest presented the approach for WP3 – Development of training materials for the three modules (smart transportation, smart sustainable accommodation and smart renewable energy), and Gabriel Dima presented the Quality and Evaluation Plan, underlining that a clear and agreed quality strategy is the key to high-quality outcomes. The partners then agreed the management and communication to-do list – management plan, communication plan, project logo and website by the end of March 2024 – and fixed the date of the second transnational meeting: 18–19 July 2024 in Da Nang, Vietnam, hosted by The University of Danang and UTE.
